Where Plant Medicine Remains a Living Tradition

Takinuna was founded through the shared path of native Amazonian healers devoted to the work with plant medicine in the Peruvian Amazon. Its roots lie in lived experience within this tradition, and that foundation continues to shape the work today.

Under the guidance of experienced Amazonian shamans and the Takinuna team, participants enter a space where the knowledge of the plants, the ceremonies, and the teachings carried through generations continue to be lived and practiced.

Retreats take place in small groups, allowing space for guidance while also respecting each person’s own relationship with the medicine.

The Takinuna Approach

At Takinuna, the work is centred around the relationship between the participant, the shamans, and the master plants. Through Ayahuasca, Bobinsana, Huachuma, and other traditional plant medicines, the retreat offers a space for guidance, healing, and a deeper connection with the medicine, allowing each person to explore what is seeking balance, understanding, or change within their life.

Small Groups

Retreats take place in small groups, creating an environment where guidance, connection, and personal space can coexist. This allows each participant to engage with the medicine in their own way throughout the retreat.

The Master Plants that guide the Process

The work at Takinuna includes a variety of medicinal and master plants that support different aspects of the retreat experience. Alongside Ayahuasca, Bobinsana, and Huachuma, other traditional plants such as Chiric Sanango, Huaira Caspi, Corazon Sacha, Lupuna, Ayahuma, Toe, Wambisa and Punga also form part of the wider plant medicine tradition that supports the work.

The plants below are the principal medicines used throughout our retreat programs and form the foundation of the ceremonial work. Those interested in learning more about these and other master plants can visit our Master Plant Medicines page.

Ayahuasca / Banisteriopsis caapi

ayahuasca 2: Present in all retreats, Ayahuasca forms the centre of the ceremonial work at Takinuna. Through the ceremonies, participants enter into a relationship with the medicine through which insight, healing, and understanding can gradually emerge. For many, the teachings of Ayahuasca unfold through this relationship, offering new perspectives on themselves, their lives, and the questions that have brought them to the retreat.

Ayahuasca Plant Medicine

Huachuma / Trichocereus pachanoi

Included in the 15-day retreat, Huachuma is approached through both daytime and nighttime ceremonial work. Often associated with clarity, perspective, and connection, it invites participants to encounter life, nature, and relationship from a broader point of view. Through the work of Inti Taita (father sun) during the day and Mama Quilla (mother moon) during the night, different aspects of the medicine gradually reveal themselves.

Huachuma San Pedro Ceremony

Bobinsana / Calliandra angustifolia

bobinsana: Included in the 10- and 15-day retreats, Bobinsana is a master plant traditionally associated with the heart centre. Through the relationship that develops with the medicine, participants often encounter themes of connection, sensitivity, emotion, and relationship, bringing a different dimension to the work carried through the ceremonies.

Choose the Retreat That Best Fits You

Each retreat offers a different way of engaging with Ayahuasca and the master plants. While the foundation remains the same, the duration of the retreat allows for different levels of immersion, additional plant medicines, and different opportunities for the work to unfold over time.

Whether you are looking for a shorter retreat or a longer period dedicated to the medicine, each retreat is guided by Amazonian shamans and held within the same spirit of ceremonial care, integration, and respect for the traditions of plant medicine.

Amazon rainforest near Iquitos Peru where ayahuasca retreats take place

A Retreat Centre in the Heart of the Amazon Rainforest

Takinuna Healing Centre is located in the Peruvian Amazon, approximately 30 minutes by boat from Iquitos. Often considered one of the last major cities before entering the deeper Amazon, Iquitos serves as a gateway to vast expanses of rainforest.

The Amazon rainforest is the ancestral home of Ayahuasca and many of the master plants used throughout the retreat, making it a place where the traditions of plant medicine continue to live and evolve.

Where Nature Becomes Part of the Work

The centre is immersed in nature, with limited electricity and simple accommodation. This environment creates space to slow down and become more present.

The Amazon rainforest is more than the backdrop to the retreat. The sounds of the forest, the river, the wildlife, and the changing atmosphere throughout the day becomes an important part of the experience.
